If you want to make sure you are keeping your home as energy-efficient as possible, you will need to keep an eye out for signs that you have some windows that need to be replaced. To help you spot those windows, you will want to check out the following points.
Frost Is Forming Inside the Windows
Frost might be pretty in the eyes of some people, but it is not something that you want to find forming on the inside of your windows. If you do find that your residential windows are ending up with frost on them, you will need to call in a skilled window-replacement professional. The frost is a clear sign that moisture is coming through the window at some point, so it is time to upgrade to a new window.
The Window Stopped Functioning Properly
If you are having trouble opening or closing the window, you have a problem. You also have a serious problem if upon your opening the window, the window does not stay open on its own. This is a major safety issue and something that needs addressed immediately. Some towns even consider this a violation of their building codes because of the danger that comes from not having a window that stays open without a board or book propping it up.
Gaps Are Forming Around the Frame of the Window

Gaps can allow insects to crawl in and can also allow air to flow through. If you are noticing the growth of mildew or mold on the framework, on the window sill, or on the drywall around the window, this should be taken as a sign that it is time for a replacement window. If you do not quickly replace the window, and moisture continues to get into your home, you may find that a lot of building materials will end up destroyed. At that point, it will cost you a lot more money to repair everything than it would have if you had simply replaced the window at the first sign of trouble.
